Each is meticulously crafted in the form of a strutting peacock, modeled as a male and female pair, with finely chased plumage, crested heads, and long flowing tails. Executed in solid silver with naturalistic detail, the bodies are hollow and likely formed from multiple cast sections joined together. The heads may be detachable or hinged, a common feature in such Viennese figural table ornaments of the late 19th century.Hallmarks: both figures are stamped on the underside with the Dianakopf (Diana head) mark facing right, used in the Austro-Hungarian Empire from 1872 to 1922, indicating a silver fineness of 800/1000. The number "3" for the third standard (.800 silver). The letter mark indicating the Vienna assay office. Maker’s mark (partially worn and illegible in photos, but typical of Viennese silversmiths working circa 1880)Weight: 48.6 oz., 1375 g.These Austrian silver peacocks are classic examples of Viennese silver animalier sculpture of the late 19th century, often found as part of elaborate table settings or Objets de luxe.
