Osler, birmingham circa 1860 The canopy issuing drops and festoons suspended above a baluster-shaped shaft above a further canopy issuing eight beaded chains attached to the drip pans of eight scrolling candle-branches hung with drops and tears, terminating in a finial 60 X 361/2 in. 153 X 92 cm - $120,000-180,000 The firm of S & C Osler was a renowned glass manufacturing firm established in 1807 by Thomas Osler; it closed finally in 1976. Ibrahum Pascha visited Birmingham in 1847 and commissioned a pair of chandeliers for the tomb of Mohammed. This established the firm's reputation and the Prince Consort consolidated their importance by buying a pair of chandeliers for Queen Victoria in 1848, now at Osborne House. The company successfully exhibited at the Great Exhibition of 1851.
