Made in Mali near the Tenere Desert, but purportedly found in the Faiyum Valley of Egypt, dating to about 7000 to 5000 BC. Knapped stone implement. Egypt has a very rich Paleolithic past, dating from the Lower Paleolithic. The Faiyum has a fundamentally important role to play in developing an understanding of Egyptian prehistory. As well as a distinctive Epipalaeolithic industry, it has some of the earliest evidence in Egypt of agricultural activities. 4-1/2"H x 1-3/4"W, 383g. Custom stand.

Provenance: Ex-private Chicago, IL collection.
