A NEEDLEWORK SAMPLER, wrought by Louisiana Shrader, Kentucky or Pennsylvania, 1825. Rows of alphabet, strawberries, the inscription: "Louisiana, the daughter of John and Rachel Shrader, was born January 17, 1812, and worked this sampler in the year one thousand eight hundred and twenty five," and verse, above a building flanked by trees and bowls of strawberries, enclosed by bold flowers, worked in silk threads in shades of green, blue, peach, brown and black on a gauze ground - 21 in x 17 1/2 in. Provenance: Louisiana Shrader was born in Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky, the daughter of Rachel Ross and John Shrader. She was married to Cullen Melone July 15, 1828 in Shelby County, Kentucky.
