An incredible and important work of art! Mayan Territories, Mexico, Campeche, ca. 550 - 950 AD. Carved jade pendant with beautiful open work and incised detailing depicting a profile of a Maya Lord (on left side), upside down, it shows an unbelievable mythological monster head which has perforated holes that had beads attached originally. Piece itself measures just a tad over 3"W/L x 1-5/8"H x 1/4"D, intact/excellent.

Provenance: Ex-Westermann Collection, Germany, ex-Sotheby's.
