(Disneyland, 1965) An original concept painting by Disney Legend Mary Blair for Disneyland's It's a Small World. After its incredible success at the 1964-65 New York World's Fair, Walt Disney wanted to bring It’s a Small World to Disneyland as a permanent attraction and chose Blair, who contributed heavily to the original World's Fair iteration, to design the Park version. The painting depicts a trio of colorful mermaids with golden hair flowing as if underwater, perched atop a crocodile. The gold paint has a metallic sheen, which creates a striking effect against the rest of the vibrant matte colors. Measuring 14" x 17" with an image size of 13" x 13.75", accomplished in gouache on artist’s board, this piece displays in fine condition with pinholes in the corners.
