A London Brighton & South Coast Railway 3-aspect HANDLAMP. The body, clearly stamped “LB & SCR” and “B.795. CROWBOROUGH”, carries a large oval brass plate embossed “London Brighton And South Coast Railway Company”. Complete with a “L & SWR” (stamped) vessel, brass/ceramic burner, reflector and front lens (no drum glasses). The reducing-cone is also stamped “LB & SCR” and bears a circular “B” (Brighton) plate. In good, original condition. Note Crowborough station between Eridge and Uckfield, opened as “Rotherfield” in 1868; was renamed “Crowborough” in 1880; “Crowborough and Jarvis Brook” in 1897; “Crowborough” again in 1980.
