A Little American's Promise 14 x 11 WWI Poster A Little American's Promise.
A Little American's Promise. 14" x 11" Artist: unsigned. This cute poster was printed for John Martin's Book, The Child's Magazine. This small poster/handbill was a small pledge which a young child could sign in order to pledge his loyalty to the war effort. This was a great way to get children involved in the war effort. The pledge reads, "I'll eat corn-meal, oatmeal, and rice and nice sweet hominy; corn flakes and mush with lots of milk are good enough for me. At table I'll not leave a scrap of food upon my plate, And I'll not eat between meals but for supper time I'll wait. I make the promise that I'll do my honest, earnest part in helping my America with all my loyal heart. This is a promise , and I hope all children make the same. I'll be a good American and hereto sign my name." Then below this is a place for the child to sign his/her name and list their address. This diminutive poster is a wonderful piece of history, and depicts how the government even got children involved in conserving food and being patriotic. A must have for any serious collection! <r<r Condition-Superior; poster is printed on a dark colored stock so it is slightly yellow looking.
