A Large Embroidered Silk Dragon Panel, The deep blue background embroidered in polychrome and gilt threads with seven flying dragons in pursuit of flaming pearls amidst swirling ruyi headed clouds, a central pagoda flanked by golden dragons below two of the Imperial symbols representing the sun and the moon, surrounded by scattered cranes, phoenixes and floral pagoda medallions; the overall enclosed by a brocade border. 19th Century, Overall: 54 1/4 x 60 1/2 inches (137.8 cm x 153.6 cm) [New mounting, small red stains visible to the central pagoda, some minor loose threads/fraying. Otherwise in good overall condition. This condition report states major condition issues only.] Note:The twelve Imperial symbols are traditionally found on ceremonial dragon robes representing the Emperor as ruler of the Universe. In this piece, the sun and moon symbols are included in the form of their corresponding representations: the three-legged crow (sun) and the hare with the elixir of immortality (moon).
