A Large Embellished and Lacquered-Wood Wall Panel*, Embellished in ivory, jade, metal, agate, cloisonné, coral and wood with the characters 'Xie Shun', above the trigram 'Qian' with a flaming pearl chasing three-clawed dragon amid waves within a white jade square, above an elephant standing on a rectangular wood stand and carrying a vase containing a fly whisk, zither, flowering branch, calligraphy brush, and another flowering branch with two jade pendants dangling from it, all reserved on a black lacquer ground, the reverse depicting various flowers painted in gilt, set within a zitan frame with beaded edges, the bronze hardware well cast with bats, swastikas, and archaistic scrolls. Late Qing Dynasty, 55 3/4 x 30 inches (141.6 x 76.2 cm) [Losses, cracks, wear, surface soiling. This condition report states major condition issues only.] Note:The trigram 'Qian' represents the heaven, summer, creativity, fatherhood, and the direction south. It is also the first of the eight trigrams. The characters 'Xie Shun' may be translated as harmony and favorable.
