A Lancaster & Carlisle Railway guards ‘button’ whistle each side displaying the full Company title large nickel button (Froggatt Plate 11/1). In fine condition and working. An astonishing survivor! Note The Lancaster & Carlisle Railway opened in 1846 and was leased to the LNWR in 1859 so this clearly dates as one of the earliest whistles known.
