(A LOCK OF ABRAHAM LINCOLN`S HAIR)
(1809 - 1865) Sixteenth President of the United States who led the Union through the Civil War and emancipated the slaves, assassinated. A rare and desirable relic, about six strands of Abraham Lincoln's hair, taken from a large lock of hair originally owned by Robert J. Lincoln, obtained by him from Lincoln in Springfield, May 6, 1865. The hair comes with a photograph showing the original lock and envelope, with provenance in the hand of Robert J. Lincoln. This larger lock was auctioned off by RIBA Auctions in March 12, 1994. It was then separated into several smaller lots by the purchaser, and is accompanied by a notarized letter of provenance from the original purchase, stating that the strands in this lot were once part of the large lock obtained by him at the RIBA Auction. Also included is a copy of the original auction invoice, listing the lock of hair. A most scarce and desirable Lincoln relic!
