A LATE 18TH-CENTURY CAUGHLEY MINIATURE TEABOWL AND TWO SAUCERS, each having hand-painted underglaze blue chinoserie decoration of a waterside pavilion, with painted 'S' mark (Godden 817) to base, the teabowl 4.7cm diameter x 2.7cm high, (1.9in x 1.1in), the saucers each 7.3cm, (2.9in) diameter (teabowl and one saucer haircracked) *** Although Caughley made miniature teasets of this type (See Sandon, John, The Phillips Guide to British Porcelain of the 18th and 19th centuries, p.71), these three items do not appear to possess the typical translucency of Caughley porcelain, being rather closer in colour and body to creamware.
