A HEADBOARD “CAMBRIAN COAST EXPRESS”. This cast aluminium 3-line headboard, in totally ex-loco condition, has its offset BR(W) back bracket and is impressed with other named trains in the back. This named train had its origins in 1921 as a restaurant car train from Paddington at 9.50 a.m. for Aberystwyth, Barmouth and Pwllheli. By 1923 it had become a Birkenhead express, with the Aberystwyth portion detached at Birmingham Snow Hill. It officially acquired the name in 1927, usually hauled by a Castle, on the Cambrian line by Dukedogs and Manors. Revived in the first summer after the War, its name was restored in 1951.
