A George III Shropshire/Welsh borders mahogany housekeeper's cupboard and combined longcase clock having a detachable moulded cornice with crossbanded collar beneath in turn above the central glazed door enclosing the 16ins. circular painted dial with Roman numerals and eight day striking movement inscribed "R. Matthews, Oswestry" with trunk door beneath and flanked on either side by a pair of panelled doors enclosing shelves and with a further narrow panelled centre cupboard beneath flanked on either side by a series of three graduated drawers, each with wooden knob handles and cockbeading to each drawer front and with brass escutcheons, the right hand top drawer opening to reveal a secretaire interior and all raised on turned feet. Height 95ins., width 102ins., depth 25ins. (see illustration)
