A GWR brass CABSIDE NUMBERPLATE “6908”. As carried by the ‘4900 Hall’ class 4-6-0 “DOWNHAM HALL” built at Swindon in November 1940 under Lot 340 at a cost of £4,975 plus another £1,111 for the Collett 4000 gallons tender No. 2847. A Stafford Road engine until 1948, she moved to Swindon until 1950; St Philips Marsh until withdrawal in July 1965. She was scrapped by John Cashmore Ltd, Town Quay, Newport, Mon. The plate is face-restored only, and is accompanied by a fine 21”x17” framed photograph of the locomotive outside Swindon Works. Downham Hall is 4 miles N.E. of Clitheroe in Lancashire, at the heart of GWR territory!
