A GWR brass CABSIDE NUMBERPLATE “5033”. As carried by the GWR ‘4073 Castle’ class 4-6-0 “BROUGHTON CASTLE” built at Swindon in May 1935 at a cost of £4,955 plus £951 for the 4000 gallons tender. It was built under Lot 296, the first locomotive of the Lot. Initially allocated to Stafford Road, she moved to Chester in 1947, and finally Oxford in 1958 from where she was withdrawn on 7th September 1962 after running 1,160,197 miles to be cut up by John Cashmore Ltd., Great Bridge, Tipton, Staffs. The plate is lightly face-restored only and is a very fine example. Broughton Castle is a fortified manor-house 3 miles SW of Banbury, and is the home of Lords Saye and Sele since 1451. One of the nameplates is displayed at the Castle.
