A GOOD CHAMBERLAIN SCENT BOTTLE, circa 1800, of flattened shuttle shape, painted in grey and black with a view of 'Gloucester' the reverse with a lady emblematic of 'Winter', warming her hands over a fire whilst a child in the background carries more firewood, each scene with the title in gold, within neo-classical peach and gold borders, gilt metal cover, 9.4cm, (slight wear, inner stopper lacking). *This shape is described in the Chamberlain Factory records as a 'Smelling Bottle'. Before sale they were sent to Birmingham for mounting by either J. Taylor and Co or Issac Bedford and retailed between two and three guineas.
