A GEORGE III GILT-BRASS-MOUNTED MAHOGANY BRACKET CLOCK
The dial and movement signed Higgs y/Diego Evans/Bolst Real/Londres, circa 1770 The movement with painted main and subsidiary seconds and date dials and pierced scrolling and flowerhead cast spandrels beneath a radiating engraved sunburst, the case with domed top with lambrequin above a ribbon-tied husk swag, above a pierced acanthus-filled guilloche, the top surmounted by and set at each corner with a squared, fluted socle supporting a flaming urn, the arched glazed door flanked by terms with trailing floral decoration, each pierced rocaille side centered by a cherub head below a carrying handle, all above a flaring cavetto-molded base set with paterae centering garlands above beading and interlace set with acorns and oak leaves, on scrolled acanthus feet 32 X 17 X 13 IN. (82 X 44 X 33 CM)

The present clock was made in London for the Spanish market. This was quite a current practice in the 18th century English furniture trade, the most famous example being the suite of red japanned furniture made by Giles Grendy for the Duke of Infantado. There is also an English green japanned longcase clock in the Treasury of Seville cathedral
