A.G. Hicks Rifleman's Knife, 7-1/2'' spearpoint blade, 12-3/8'' overall, rosewood grips mounted with brass strips and held with 12 iron screws; iron pommel is affixed with two iron screws. Grip panel is clearly marked ''A.G. Hicks, Maker, Clevd. O.''. Mfg'd in the 1840s. This variation of the standard rifleman's knife shows a somewhat shorter blade and is double edge ground with a spear point instead of the more typically encountered clip point. The original extended brass hook-type pommel that normally forms a partial knuckle bow has either been replaced or was mfg'd originally with the slight bent iron piece that now adorns it. Condition is very good to fine considering its age and length of use. Blade shows light moderate carbon toning. Brass with general even patina and minor knackering. Rosewood grips with light dings, scuffs, and scratches. Est.: $8,000-$12,000.
