A Fine Ivory Brush Pot*, Of flattened cylindrical form with slightly uneven surfaces, carved with meticulous detail in high relief and deep undercutting in a continuos scene surrounding legendary scenes of the Bodhidharma and insects in turbulent waves near rocks, grapevines, pine trees, plantains and millet, alternating with scenes of a cultured man riding a donkey accompanied by his attendant, the God of Longevity strolling with his dog, two gentlemen riding a boat, hunter in pursuit of a stag, all set in a mountainous landscape with three song birds, a toad, two cranes, various pine trees and a meandering stream, the carved feet interconnected with bands of scrolling flowers, the surface highlighted with a black pigment, with carved wood stand. 19th Century, Height: 7 13/16 inches (19.9 cm) [Age cracks, missing base plate.
