lot of 5. Four are checks: one dated 11 Oct. 1884 with notation on end for Hay, signed by Henry G. Williams, Supt.; one with Hurlbut-Conrad Land and Cattle Company, dated 6 Apr. 1885; and two with The Hurlbut Land and Cattle Co. with dates of 1 June 1892 and 6 Nov. 1893, both also signed by Henry Williams. Last item is payroll statement from O.Z. Ranch, approx. 5.5" x 8.5", to P.B. Weare, Secretary and Treasurer of Hurlbut-Conrad Land and Cattle Co. The payroll statement is interesting since the last entry is to Indian Plentycows for two Indians labor for 13 days each in Nov. at $40PM (which is the same rate some of the other hands were receiving).

The Hurlbut-Conrad Land and Cattle Co., or Livestock Co., or any one of its other "incarnations" ran cattle in Wyoming, including parts of Johnson and Sheridan Counties, but the head office, as with so many other investment companies, was in Chicago. The "OZ" brand and its variations were registered with the Wyoming Stock Growers' Association by 1885 for both cattle and horses. John Conrad is listed as President in 1885, J. Hurlbut, Vice President, S. Hurlbut, Secretary, P.B. Weare, Treasurer (replaced by C.A. Weare in the 1890s) and H. Williams, range Superintendent.

Condition: Expected cancellations on checks. Payroll statement has minor toning on bottom edge, else fine.
