A Farewell To Arms (Paramount, 1932). Lobby Cards (3) ( A Farewell To Arms (Paramount, 1932).
A Farewell To Arms (Paramount, 1932). Lobby Cards (3) (11" X 14"). This adaptation of Ernest Hemingway's classic debut novel earned four Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, and walked away with only two awards, for Best Cinematography and Sound. The ceremony was nothing new for director Frank Borzage; he won Best Director twice in the five years prior, including the first such award ever given, for his film "Seventh Heaven." He would not be so lucky again, never scoring so much as another nomination, but the 37 "World's Greatest Grandpa" mugs bestowed upon him later in life must have felt equally gratifying. These three lobby cards feature Gary Cooper (as Hemingway's hero, Lt. Fredric Henry) and/or Adolphe Menjou (as Major Rinaldi) in scenes from the film. The only card without Cooper is in great condition, with clean borders, aside from a tape-repaired tear on the left side. The card that depicts Cooper and Menjou seated at the table has paper loss at the bottom, a tape-repaired tear on the left edge and occasional staining in the borders. The confrontation between Cooper and Menjou is depicted in fine condition, with a missing top-left corner, a tear in the top edge and a few crease marks. Very Good/Fine.
