The wooden sheath covered in velvet and mounted in finely embossed, engraved, gilded and nielloed silver, with a stylized character inscribed on the toggle. It contains a utility knife with hollowground blade and variegated horn grips, together with a fingernail file with matching horn grip bowed outward, and set with a silver ferrule and hinged cap nielloed en suite with the scabbard mounts, and fitted with a spring catch. When the catch is released, the cap pivots open to reveal a bone ear scoop and toothpick, pinned at the apex. In its fitted presentation case. Mid-17th century. Velvet possibly refreshed, case well worn. Overall length 32.5 cm.
