A rare form, Circassian or Georgian work. The stock of actively-grained maple elaborately inlaid with figured, green-dyed stag plaques, horn, brass medallions and studs. The wrist wrapped with twisted silver wire as often found, the butt with large pierced and profiled silver mounts and lanyard ring, with well-wrought captured silver chain for suspension from the saddlebow. The silver barrel bands with quatrefoil apertures, engraved overall and finely nielloed. With characteristic miquelet lock struck with a gilt maker's mark, elaborately inlaid with silver vinework en suite with the barrel tang and button trigger. The fine, heirloom barrel with raised, chiseled panel at the breech and muzzle, wrought of superb pattern-welded damascus steel. With its fitted black leather case set with buttons along the lower edge and an aperture for the saddlebow chain. First half of the 19th century. Minor losses and period repairs. Overall length 45 cm.
