A FEDERAL MAHOGANY SECRETAIRE BOOKCASE, circa 1800 - 1810. The two cupboard doors enclosing an arrangement of shelves and one drawer, on a hinged front opening to reveal a baize writing service, bears paper label Matthew Egerton cabinet maker new Brunswick. - 65 in high x 36 in wide x 22 in deep. Matthew Egerton Sr. (1739-1802). Matthew Egerton has a well-known oval printed label which can be clearly seen n the inside of this clock; "MATTHEW EGERTON,/CABINET MAKER,/IN BURNET STREET./NEW BRUNSWICK, (N.J)" During his career Egerton was thought of as the Garden State's finest craftsman and his label has been found on Sheraton and Hepplewhite inlaid mahogany furniture, including sideboards, end and Pembroke tables, slant-front desks, clock cases, linen presses and barometers. $2,000-4,000 The property of Elizabeth du Pont Bayard Weedon
