A. Edward Newton: Signed Magazine Article
A. Edward Newton: Signed Magazine Article Titled "Even a Screw Driver Fills Me With Suspicion." 4 pages, 9" x 12". Inscribed and signed "I am sure you did not know how big a man I am, nor am I. A. Edward Newton August 4, 1930." Newton was a famous man of electricity, and long-time Chairman of the Board for I. T. E. Circuit Breaker Co. He is most renown today as a preeminent author of books on bibliophily. Newton authored a number of books, wrote articles for magazines, gave lectures, and was generally the most well-respected authority on book collecting in his own time. His book The Amenities of Book-Collecting and Kindred Affections was one of the most wildly popular publications on book-collecting ever written, and remains one of the most fiercely collected books among bibliophiles. The article presented here is a short "Personality Sketch" of Newton by Chapin Hoskins, reprinted from Electrical Manufacturing. Chapin balances his article between Newton's vocation and his avocation, revealing a man deeply devoted to both his work and his books. In Newton's words, as quoted in the article: "My life has always been a singularly duplex affair...One half of it--no, much more, nine-tenths of it--has been hard work, the rest of it has been spent in my library." The article is in fine condition, with the usual folds. It is housed in a tri-fold custom binder with gilt spine lettering.

Shipping: Books & Catalogs (view shipping information)
