A Design to Dissolve the Union. Corresponden
A Design to Dissolve the Union. "Correspondence between John Quincy Adams...and Several Citizens of Mass., concerning the charge of a Design to Dissolve the union alleged to have existed in that state." Boston, 1829, 80 pp. First edition. Magnificently bound in rich brown polished calf, yellow and brown veined boards, gilt title and trim. Dramatic plot to dismember the United States by creation of a Northern Confederacy in Massachusetts, here denounced by Pres. Adams. Statesmen of Massachusetts were in opposition to South Carolina, which started the secession movement leading to Southern Confederacy. One tear in blank margin pp. 17-18, light occasional foxing, else very fine, the binding lovely. US-iana A68. Scarce and interesting.
