A Derby porcelain ice pail, cover and liner, circa 1815, of rounded two handled form, painted to either side by Richard Dodson with four exotic birds perched on a knarled tree within a landscape, the octagonal shaped panels enclosed within a scrolling gilt and acanthus banded border, between a bleu celeste ground and raised on a flared gilt lined circular footrim, the cover similarly gilt with raised straight sided rim before a gilt acorn knop finial, on a gilt lined and flared florette support, lifting to reveal a domed liner with gilt rim, red enamelled crown and cross batons mark, gilders number 40, two slight stress cracks extending from rim of pail, height 25.5cm x width 27cm, 10 inches x 10 1/2 inches.
