A DIVISION ONE PAINTED UNDER GLASS BUTTON
1 Large 18th C. watercolor on paper figural and cow example. This rare example with a cow is from a larger set that the consignor acquired. The figurals and designs were hand painted on paper in Switzerland rather than France and each example in the set is a different figural with a verbal in the bottom. They are each set under glass and mounted in metal. This COW example is certainly a rarity as cows were not readily imaged in this time period on buttons. The detail is also incredible. Notice the cow looking back at the man milking him, I wonder what the cows thought was as he is looking at the owner in a interesting way don't you think, Great button.
