A Collection of Mainly 1940 Hockey Autographs
comprising a lot of 130 + old time NHL autographs from 1940 containing many great names including at least 35 Hall of Famers, some very elusive, as well as some NHL matriarchs such as Jack Adams, Frank Calder (1st NHL President 1917), Frank Patrick, Art Ross, James Norris and Red Dutton. Players included are Dick Irvin (2), King Clancy, Syd Howe, Sid Abel, 'Babe' Pratt, Brian Hextall (2), Neil Coleville, Art Coulter, Clint Smith, Eddie Shore, Milt Schmidt, W. Dumart, Bobby Bauer, Dit Clapper, Cowboy Cowley, Syl Apps, Charlier Conacher, Red Horner, 'Busher' Jackson, Gordei Drillon (last Leaf to win the scoring title 1938) and Doug Bentley. Goalies include Roy Worters, 'Turk' Broda, Frank Brimsek, Bill Durnan (2), Davie Kerr, Johnnie Mowers were great but not HOFers. Other names of interest are Muzz & Lynn Patrick, Phil Watson, Johnny Gottselig, 'Sudden Death' Hill and 'Mud' Bruneteau. Also included are twelve names from the Kirkland Lake Blue Devils, 1940 Allen Cup winners, including Durnan, as well as six Ottawa Roughriders. Many of the signatures are on small sheets but others like Jack Adams, Eddie Shore, Syd Howe, Worters, Bauer, Dick Irvin, Calder, Frank Patrick, Dutton, Ross and Drillon are well spaced. An amazing collection amassed long before the autograph craze of the 1990s cam into being. (lot)
