A fine and relatively large Colima female figure from Pre-Columbian West Mexico, circa 200 B.C. – 200 A.D. This example measures approximately 7 1/4” tall by about 3 1/2” wide (item alone, un-mounted), and about 8” tall mounted on the custom display stand (included). This figure depicts an elegant looking, nude female with arms extended outward and downward, possibly in a gesture that once had meaning to the ancient inhabitants of the region. Her features are carefully and finely rendered. She is shown wearing an interesting hairstyle and head dressing, with a long ponytail or tassel extending down her back. She also wears a necklace with a single circular pendant, and what is typically interpreted as ritual scarification / beautification on both shoulders. Intact and in excellent original condition. Otherwise, only minor abrasions, weathering and wear, with heavy mineral and sediment deposits remaining.

Provenance: Former Lynn Langdon collection, USA. Collected pre-1970.

This lot will be sold not subject to a reserve. The starting price is the price at which the item can sell.
