(Disney, 1950) An original concept painting by color stylist Mary Blair for "Cinderella." Although she had worked for the Studio since the 1940s, it was the 1950s that brought Mary Blair to the forefront of the Studio Animation Department. Walt Disney chose Blair as the color stylist for "Cinderella," "Alice in Wonderland," "Peter Pan," and several theatrical shorts. It was her conceptual work and styling that set the tone for the first three features for the Studio in the 1950s. Her early concepts are considered by many collectors to be some of the most desirable and important artwork to come out of the Studio. This concept for "Cinderella" is accomplished in gouache on art board, and explores a key scene from the film as her Fairy Godmother creates her dress for the Ball. The piece has a painted image size of 8.5" x 8" on a 9" x 9" artist board. It is in very good condition, with minor fading and some surface wear. The artwork has been archivally framed.
