A Chinese grey pottery tomb figure of a mounted rider, dating to the Han or Northern Dynasties period. The rider wears a tall headdress and sits astride a horse with high arched neck. Made in separate parts for transport or burial assembly, including detachable legs, arms, and base plate. Traces of red pigment remain on the surface. Such figures were placed in tombs as protective spirit items or status symbols, often representing military officials or cavalry in service of the deceased. An evocative example of early Chinese funerary art with archaeological integrity.
