*Lively images of children at play were particularly popular on Chinese ceramics of the 16th and 17th centuries. They continued into the ensuing Qing dynasty, with its compartmentalisation of designs for a growing export market, ultimately giving rise to the "jumping Boy" patterns seen on many early English porcelain factories of the mid 18th century
