A CIVIL WAR ERA TRENCH KNIFE WITH SHEATH, CA. 1864
A bowie knife ca. 1864 that may be connected to the U.S. Civil War. The blade is a typical, if slightly more slender, bowie style blade, and is in near perfect condition. The cross guard consists of a decorative oval shape, and rounded protrusions on either side. The handle appears to be made ofcarved horn, and has an uncommon, ridged wine bottle shape. The maker's mark on the ricasso of the blade shows a sailing ship above the initials C.R with a smaller R placed at an angle below and to the right of the first R. The leather of the scabbard is worn slightly worn but good for its age. The chape has some indentations and could have been a replacement, but the locket is in great condition.
