A CAUCASIAN SILVER-MOUNTED AND FILIGREE DAGGER, 19TH C.
This Caucasian kindjal dagger is exquisitely decorated with intricate silver lace and beadwork running the entire length of the piece, from the pommel to the tip of the scabbard. Interspersed throughout are raised panels of beautiful niello depicting vining plants and floral imagery. The tip of the scabbard ends in a silver beadwork and niello finial. The handle of the dagger is, in addition to the aforementioned beadwork and niello panels, decorated with two niello studs and is engraved with basket-weave designs on its sides. The grip itself is wrapped with a string of silver beads and is square-sectioned. The blade is decorated with 3 fullers on either side that taper near the point, with the base of the front-facing fullers terminating before they reach the guard, the central fuller being slightly longer than the others. The blade itself is of a typical shape for a kindjal and tapers to a slender point.

L: 19.75 in. (50.17 cm.);

The blade is very lightly pitted towards the tip. The backside of the scabbard shows signs of restoration and dents. The blade retains its original form.
