A CAUCASIAN KINDJAL DAGGER WITH GOLD DAMASCENE BLADE AND GILTMOUNTS
This Caucasian kindjal dagger has a straight steel blade with double fullers on each side and a spatulated tip. The fullers are framed by a thin engraved line, and the fullers on the front side are interrupted by four spade cartouches which appear to have some form of script or image inside. The handle is wooden and decorated with two gold damascened studs which protrude in the usual style. The scabbard is of leather with a slightly raised mid-rib and with a large, engraved iron chape with decorative cutouts near its top, finished by an oblong finial. Both the locket and the band which supports the attachment loop are decorated with floral gold damascene in a similar style to that seen on the handle.

L: 19 in. (48.26 cm.);

Good condition overall, with only minor rust at the base of the blade and some pitting across the chape of the scabbard. Gold damascene on the studs of the hilt is clear with only minor wear from use.
