A CAUCASIAN DAGGER WITH ARABIC GOLD INLAY AND HORN HANDLE, 1902
This is a well-crafted Caucasian kindjal dagger with a lightly blued steel blade and multiple inscriptions. On front of the blade, at its base, is section of more deeply blued steel within which is inlaid an Arabic inscription in gold preceded by the date of manufacture, 1902. The reverse side has a cursive inscription without inlay. The blade itself is of the usual Caucasian shape and tapers to a very fine point. The handle is made up of two smokey-grey and off-white grip scales made of horn affixed to the tang by three rounded iron studs.
The scabbard is a wooden core wrapped in thin black leather and finished by a silver chape with an oblong finial, both the chape and its finial being lightly engraved. There is also a metal band which holds the attachment from which the scabbard is hung.

L: 21.5 in. (54.61 cm.);

The blade is lightly pitted along the edges. The engraving and gold inlay is well preserved. The grip scales are tight and have a minor chip. The chape is a replacement for the period. The utility knife is missing.
