A CAPTURED NORTH CAROLINA CONFEDERATE WRITES FROM THE OLD CAPITOL PRISON - Current Bid: $100.00
"My wound is slight, a piece of my ear shot off…"

War date A.L.S. of Pvt. Noah Deaton of the 26th North Carolina, 2pp. 8vo., "Washington City" Oct. 17, 1863. Deaton, who had been captured at Bristol Station on October 14, reports on his capture to his father: "Dear Father, I am very thankful that I have an opportunity this morning of writing a few lines which I trust will reach you. I was wounded at Bristol Station, Va. and captured and am now in prison in Washington City. My wound is slight, a piece of my ear shot off and a bruise on the shoulder, not serious. My health is good. Several of our boys hare here, all well, some with slight wounds... Not a man has said a harsh word to me yet. Do not be uneasy about me for I trust that I will be treated with the hospitality and respect that I have been and as a prisoner of war should be..." According to the records, Deaton would be transferred to Point Lookout, Maryland on Oct. 27 and spent the next year and half there until he was paroled in February 1865. Separated at folds and repaired on verso, light soiling, else very good.

Estimate: $200 - 300.
