1871 Pay attention all you San Franciscans and collectors of items from that wonderful City. This is a pair of letters from a gentleman, R.H. Haines, to his brother, reporting on the condition of their uncle who is recovering from an un-named illness or malady. It refers to such City landmarks as Woodward’s Gardens, a 19th century combination amusement park, zoo and aquarium. It also mentions The Bella Union Theatre. Haines also mentions bumping into friends and acquaintances while strolling downtown and mentions a friend who is “keeping a cigar stand.”This is a nice slice of life from 1880’s San Francisco and is in great and readable condition inspite of one small stain.
