A Bronze Sculpture by Brett-Livingstone Strong, 1979.... (Total: 1 )
A Bronze Sculpture by Brett-Livingstone Strong, 1979. A weighty piece, depicting the front of Wayne's face with the sides appearing to be abstract waves as if the actor were formed from the sea, small sharp bolts on the side and back indicate the piece was supposed to be fitted into something else (like a wall or larger artwork), lower left side engraved "Life, Time, Light / In Honor of / John Wayne / May 1979 / Brett-Livingstone Strong / BLS '79 / A / 7/50 / North America / Life Time Light / The Million $ Rock," whole sculpture rests on a rotating base so it can be seen from any angle.Approximately 11" x 10" x 8"According to the artist's Wikipedia page, in 1977 Strong carved a similar image of Wayne into a boulder that had fallen onto Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu. It was later sold for over $1 million and is now on display at Lubbock Christian University in Lubbock, Texas. This smaller piece appears to have been made to commemorate the larger work. Interestingly, Strong had a later collaboration with Michael Jackson, painting the pop star's famous portrait titled 'The Book.'
