(A BOOK FROM THE LIBRARY OF ULYSSES S. GRANT) GEORGE H. THOMAS
Gen. George H. Thomas presents a book to Ulysses S. Grant

(1816 - 1870) Union major general, "The Rock of Chickamauga", Thomas led at Chickamauga, Shiloh, Atlanta and Franklin. A superb association piece, Report of the First Meeting of the Society of the Army of the Cumberland Held at Cincinnati, February, 1868. (Cincinatti: Robert Clarke & Co., Printers., 1868) 168 pp. 8vo. bound in green cloth boards. Signed and inscribed on the front blank flyleaf by Thomas to: "Gen U. S. Grant Comdg Armies U States From the Society of the Army of the Cumberland Geo H. Thomas Maj. Genl USA Prest. S.A.C." An ironic association in light of the fact that Thomas, a Virginian had run afoul of Grant's northern policies. Binding intact, pages generally clean, overall fine condition.

Estimate: $600 - 800.
