<B>A BLACKFEET BEADED HIDE DOUBLE SADDLE BAG<BR></B></I><BR>c. 1890<BR> <BR>each end overlaid with red and black wool trade cloth, decorated with abstract floral sprays in numerous shades of opaque and translucent beads, long hide fringe<BR><BR>Floral beadwork designs were set against a red wool background to dramatic effect, for they covered large surfaces on Blackfeet horse regalia. For similar examples, see Walton, Ann, Ewers, John, and Hassrick, Royal, After the Buffalo Were Gone, Northwest Area Foundation, St. Paul, MN, 1985, pp. 219 - 220.<BR><BR>Provenance:<BR>Collected from a Blackfeet man named Crow Chief in Helena, MT.<BR>Atlas Framing, Marty Ingham<BR>Custer Battlefield Trading Post, Crow Agency, MT<BR><I><BR>Length: 54 ½</B></I> <I>inches excluding fringe</B></I> <B>Condition Report:</B> Overall good condition. Hide with approx. 20 holes, largest 1/2", & staining . Beadwork intact. Hide fringe Intact. Approx. 5 old repairs to hide tears, largest 1" red wool fabric with multiple areas of insect loss, especially along sewn edges.
