A BEAUTIFUL MUGHAL DECCANI BRASS BIRD 17TH CENTURY
A Very Rare Islamic Mughal Deccani Brass Eye Mascara In form of a Bird, Circa 16th/17TH CENTURY Deccan or SOUTH INDIAN ,
Of Very Beautiful Bird Possibly a PARROT. This cast brass bird is quite naturalistically modeled with vigorous incised detailing with,
on its back a round blanket or saddle with cross-hatched decoration. Its chest and underside of the tail have drilled openings and it
stands on a rectangular base with a circular hole for attachment. The chest hole may indicate its function as an oil container,
although they may be a later alteration because the oil outlet on similar objects is usually cast as a projection with the
body.Bibliography: Gold, Silver and Bronze from Mughal India by Mark Zebrowski pub. London 1997 (see a similar bird no.94)
