American illustrator best known for his endearing illustrations of the Uncle Remus tales of Joel Chandler Harris. Frost, whose pictures also appeared in Harper’s Weekly and in books by Lewis Carroll, Mark Twain, and Teddy Roosevelt. Original pen & ink drawing, 7"x7", illustrating a story by John Kendrick Bangs entitled “The Spectre Cook of Bangle-Top.” Boldly signed beneath drawing. Annotated on verso in another hand, “Harper’s Wkly - Dec. 5, 1891, The Spectre Cook of Bangle-Top.” When published in Harper’s Dec 5, 1891, it bore the caption, “The Baron’s Breakfast Was Not.” Negligible staining; few marginal pricks; else in very good condition. Attractively matted and contained under glass within simple frame. Very nice.
