Featuring this beautiful, vintage, A. A. Vantine's of New York compack. This compact was made in the Orient and imported by A.A. Vantine's of New York. It is missing the Peking Glass Bead at the end of the cord and a Peking glass bangle and would have had a gold label on the bottom with the words Vantine's in flowing script. This company started in the 1860's and continued on into the the 1940's with all sorts of Oriental style porcelain, pottery, fabrics, jewelry, perfume and most collected are the metal incense burners. This compact style dates to the flapper era of the 1920's. Lovely butterfly enclosed under plastic with pink satin ribbon (which has faded over the years and appears brown)forms the lid. The bottom is covered with faded pink satin ribbon also. This compact has been made out of a round wooden box. The edges are beautifully decorated with (Ric-Rack)trim and glued to the outer edges. The bottom is decorated with pink satin ribbon which is beginning to wear. A thin and brittle wire attaches the lid to the bottom base and is threaded through a lovely polished creamed colored stone or celluloid bead. A small amount of face powder is still located on the inside of the box with the lid having a mirror. This is a very unique, A. A. Vantine's Of New York compact. Belonged to my great grandmother. This compact has been verified by two different antique shops and also one email from a lady that has collected A.A. Vantine's Compacts for several years.
