This is a Victorian era officer's lance cap for the 9th Lancers. The skull, peak and top are composed of black patent leather. The waist has a gilt band simulating gold bullion cord. Two lion's head ear bosses suspend the decorated velvet backed chin chain. In the center is a silvered double "AR" cypher with a banner underneath reading "ROYAL LANCERS" and surrounded by 12 battle honors the latest being "KANDAHAR" and "AFGHANISTAN" without dates. The front peak is edged with gilt metal and is lined with green leather. The sweat band is natural color leather and the silk lining is red with a gold embossed "SANDILANDS & SON" label.
