91A: An Ancient Roman Glass Sprinkler Flask
Rome, ca. 1st – 3rd century AD/CE. A truly beautiful Sprinkler Flask of natural pale green glass; the body is mold blown in a swirled pattern and has a beautiful iridescence. A sprinkler flask is a vessel with an inner diaphragm at the junction of the neck and body; therefore, the precious liquid, which in this case was probably a balm from a wealthy Roman lady’s boudoir, could be poured drop by drop. The small opening can be clearly seen in the last photo. 4”H (10cm).

Provenance: From the seller’s collection which was exhibited at the Hallie Ford Museum of Art in Salem, Oregon. Originally in an old French collection.
