ALS from James J. Clark of the 80th Illinois Infantry, Company A. Accompanied by cover. We are strong enough to hold our own with all most any force that can come against us here it makes me feel proud to think the Copperheads has got so badly beaten in their election this fall. I think the hardest fight of the war will be fought between Bragg and Grant before long but I have no fears but what Grant will give him all he can tend to by the time he gets done…'' James J. Clark mustered into service on 25 August 1862 as a Musician. He was reduced to the rank of Private before mustering out on 10 June 1865 in Nashville, Tennessee. Letter measures 5'' x 8'' and runs 3pp. Fine condition.
